More about me

I've recently reread my little "about me" section and like I stated in the blog, I am horrible about writing any kind of bio, and boy howdy does it show there.
Okay I'm being a little hard on myself, it really wasn't that bad. It was short and to the point of what this blog is but it wasn't really about ME. So let's start again.

Hi, my name is Bri (short for Briana). I am a 30 year old disabled woman, I am a college student, and I am a coffee lover.
My parents chose my name because they liked the meaning of it, which is "she ascends; she rises up". I've always felt very connected to my name, not because my parents chose it for the meaning, but because I have felt like the meaning really represented me.
I have a condition called Femoral Hypoplasia (or at least that's what it was called when I was diagnosed in 1995 when I was born. This is a condition where the femur bones (the bone in your thigh) are either malformed or absent; in my case I have both. In my right leg I have a very small femur and in my left leg I have no femur at all. I rely on an electric wheelchair to get around in my day to day life, and I rely on a few other aids to help me with everyday activities.
I remember my first grade teacher Mrs. Krai said that I was someone who always stood up for what was right and I am honored to have upheld that characteristic. In this past year I have been trying to figure out a way I could make a contribution in the disabled community. Starting this blog has been an outlet for both my creativity and activism; and while it's only been a few weeks, it has really fulfilled those itches.

Education and I have been in a toxic on again, off again relationship. I truefully dropped out of community college in 2017. There was a lot of personal issues/ mental health stuff I really refused to address at the time. Skip to 2020 which was the worst year of my life, the pandemic was the least of my worries. Things started to turn around from 2021-2022. I picked myself back up, got serious about my mental health, started seeing a therapist about my anxiety, and moved into a home that I would stay in for 3 years when in 2020 I had moved 3 different times in that year alone.
I had moved into my friends house in early 2024. Moving out of my parents house allowed me to focus on myself fully for the first time. I moved in in February, dealt with a bunch of wheelchair drama, went on my first solo vacation in June, and enrolled back in community college in August.
It is now July 2026 and in August I start my last semester where in 16 weeks I will have my Associates degree in Communications. I have worked my ass off non-stop these past 2 years. I never took a winter or summer semester off until now. I decided with my summer off I was looking for a project to stay occupied and keep my mind engaged. Yes, I have talked to my therapist about needing to stay busy, but I promise I really am resting!

Finally; I am a coffee lover. Ugh I really do love it. This has been a love for years. It started in 7th grade when my friend Slyinda would bring me hot cocoa with coffee in it (I would later discover to be a mocha) in the mornings before school. My mom had to be at work early and Slyinda's guardian worked for the school so we were always the first ones there in the mornings. She would bring us mochas and donuts on cold days to warm us up. I drank exclusively mochas or coffees with a lot of flavored creamer in the following years.
I would love to say my palate has developed and now I'm strictly a black coffee drinker but... the most I got is I can now do oat milk (I'm lactose intolerant) lattes with no flavoring or added sugars. I'm working on it. To know who you're taking coffee reviews from I thought I should share some of my favorites.

Seasonally:
Fall: Yes, I am that basic pumpkin spice latte fan. (Though I do recommend the Pumpkin Layered Latte from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf). I also fucks with a dirty chai latte.

Winter: I'm a peppermint mocha girl (you can pry my mocha from my cold dead hands). Though I can't do white mochas they're not the same and they're too sweet. (Though... if we can get a Chestnut Praline Latte... that is the winner right there).

Spring/Summer: These two are combined because California doesn't change much between seasons. A lavender latte or a honey latte is the way to go for me. I've also been getting a lot of vanilla lattes this summer. I have been dipping my toe into a cold brew with cold foam. I want to try to find something that isn't Milky for this season.
So yes, lattes are my favorite. I like a good balance of the bitter coffee and the sweet flavoring.

School Season: Yes, I'm making my own season because there was a point I had to actually go to school rather than just lock myself in my room and do online classes. So, during times I have to actively go to school, a simple oat milk latte is my way to go I have learned. Starbucks use a vanilla flavored oat milk, while shops that don't burn their coffee don't need the extra flavoring and I can do regular oat milk.

Year Round: Take a guess

Fun Facts:
While I get oat milk in most of my coffees I actually like the taste of soy milk the best. (I know my queer card is being revoked as we speak).
Born on Halloween... Boo!
My big three are Scorpio, Aquarius, and Aries; though I honestly think I give big Taurus energy.
I have a collection of snow globes. I have never bought myself a snow globe, people just think I have snow globe energy and buy them for me... but now people buy me snow globes because I have a collection of snow globes... I have never bough-
I'm working on a murder mystery novel; who knows if you'll ever read it.
I have 5 photography certificates from Michigan State University
Height: Short
Mental Height: Tall
Physical: Disabled
I'm an ordained minister.
Skills: Good at sudoku, obtaining hobbies, caffeine addiction
Weakness: Lactose
I hope this post helped you get to know me a little better. I still don't think I'm great at this bio stuff but maybe after the 30th "get to know me post" I'll get the hang of it.
